Dr. Michael Wesson was born in New York City but he and his family moved away when he was an infant. They settled in Hollywood Florida where he was raised. He attended South Broward High School and after graduation entered the University of Florida in Gainesville where he obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering. He had applied and was accepted to Southern College of Optometry in Memphis Tennessee. After he graduated with a Doctorate in Optometry he entered private practice for a few years.

He was recruited by Miami Dade Junior College in Miami Florida to head up the Optometric Technician Program where he remained until entering private practice again in Lake Placid Florida. In 1979 he was asked to join the faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as Assistant Professor of Optometry. He remained at UAB for about 20 years where he eventually obtained the rank of Associate Professor with Tenure. In 2001 he moved to Punta Gorda Florida where he entered private practice.

He is married to the former Kathleen Pella and is the proud father of five girls, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His hobbies include boating, fishing, computers and fixing things!
