The AASM develops clinical guidelines for the sleep field and accredits both sleep disorders centers and home sleep apnea testing programs; advocates for legislation and regulations that promote patient access to high quality sleep care; and publishes essential resources for the field such as the International Classification of Sleep Disorders and the AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events. The AASM also organizes premier educational events such as Sleep Medicine Trends; publishes the latest research in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine; and promotes awareness of the importance of seeking sleep-related medical care from a board certified sleep medicine physician and the team of health care professionals at an AASM accredited facility.
